With the advent of all this technology in your home or business, it's unfortunate that today we feel the need to improve our security. Bits 'n' PCs can offer a consultation to advise how to improve your own security with the likes of security cameras. We can advise on indoor or outdoor cameras, with or without night-vision, and either connected directly to a network or via wi-fi. We can also offer our experience when it comes to recording, whether it's in the device directly or on storage on your network or even online "in the cloud." We can also advise how to view live on a pc or your phone anywhere in the world, and you can even watch on your own TV if you want to. Changes in Irish law in 2011 meant that you are supposed to use someone licensed to install a camera, but if you are doing it yourself, you don't have to. This means that you will have to pay a huge premium to use a security installer (licenses are about €20,000!), but we can advise what you need and can even set up the camera for you for a fraction of the cost.

Above you'll see what we think of as a security camera. Modern cameras are a lot small and discrete. Nowadays they can come with wi-fi capability, meaning a lot less wiring is needed. They can also come with internal storage similar to the memory card stored in tablets and phones, but can be configured to store images and videos to a pc or other storage device via your wi-fi. Most importantly, they come with highly sensitive light sensors and infra-red illumination, meaning even the darkest places can be seen as light as day. The most important thing about your camera outside is it's waterproof. In the industry this can be described as IP-66, which means it's kind of like wearing a waterproof jacket. It keeps most of the rain out, but isn't suitable for submerging into water, which is what meant by fully waterproof in the industry.

With the advent of technology over the last 30 years, now almost all cameras are digital. This means that indoor cameras can be a lot smaller. Again, you can store captured footage inside the camera or elsewhere, and you can also see as clearly as day in a completely dark room. One of the other main advantages of internal cameras is the ability to "Pan" and "Zoom" meaning you can move the camera (or it can move itself) and you can also zoom in on anything in view. The main disadvantage of indoor cameras is they aren't any way waterproof. If you left this outside, it would only be a few weeks before you start to find the camera gets faulty.

Do you have an old phone, PC or laptop? Did you know it can be used as a simple webcam? Software can be set up to act as a webcam, and we can make it visible in exactly the same way as the cameras above.

Obviously, you'll want to view your camera setup. We can advise and set up various methods to do so. This can be something as simple as on your pc or laptop, or on your phone, or even on your TV. We can recommend the use of different apps, and we can set them up to directly view your camera. We can also simplify the process of retrieving footage from the camera or wherever it is stored, without having to physically plug or unplug anything.
